In one song, Simon and Suzy played an old game...maybe aimed at me, but if not, it still hit the bullseye. It’s evident that this band can cover a lot of ground. From country, to R&B. Southwest, to the Rolling Stones. With each album I just sit here grinning like a lunatic at just how well they have mastered the crafting of songs. The game my friends, is about the earwig... That nasty little hook that gets stuck in you head - often for years! It’s also obvious to me that we are contemporaries, as such. The giveaway are the snippets of music that they use to draw you in... just before they close the door and pulled the rug out from under your dancing feet. As an example, in just one song Simon was able to put the Temptations, Wishbone Ash & Jimi Hendrix - in my ear, and on my mind - searching for the links as they seamlessly tightened the gauntlet they laid down in just a few short minutes. While I typically get distracted by the architecture if these songs, and the lush layering, the tones put me in a tizzy “Now I like THAT!”, but HOLD ON... who goes from eliciting the Temptations to jumping a decade to an English band like Wishbone Ash... and then spins it down to a very early 70’s nod to the master himself, Jimi Hendrix? I am just dumbfounded - I gotta go back now and relive THAT Experience for sure! Since I made a unique purchase, without hearing maybe one or two cuts, I truly had no idea what I was about to get myself into... Now that I’ve previewed 3 discs, I’m going to have toguve them another round... with the cans on, and NO distractions. Oh, yeah.... Suzy & Simon, you’re welcome in America anytime we’re collectively smart enough to make it worth your while... school will be in session at that time.
